Look Good and Do Better

By purchasing one or several of our handmade needlepoint belts, you obtain a stylish accessory to wear, provide a well paying job for a hard working Haitian woman and contribute to the education of that woman’s children so that they can break the cycle of poverty their families have been stuck in.

At Good Threads, we have 3 goals: create beautiful, original, durable, high-quality belts (and other handmade items) and to create a well paying job that will help a Haitian family live with dignity and improve the education and prospects of the children of our workers. All of our products are lovingly produced in Haiti, and a fair share of all sales proceeds are returned to this island nation to benefit future generations of citizens.

You will not find many opportunities to support an amazing cause and expand your collection of handmade needlepoint belts. By supporting and enjoying the quality products from Good Threads, you accomplish two important goals: Look Good, Do Better!

OUR INDIVIDUALLY CRAFTED BELTS ARE BEAUTIFUL PRODUCTS OF CONTEMPORARY HAITIAN ART

We currently offer a line of 39 designs from which you can select, but we also accept custom orders. This gives you, the customer, complete creative control, if you wish. It also makes it easy to personalize individual belts with names, initials, or even logos.

Some of the existing needlepoint belt designs offered by Good Threads include:

The Good Threads Mission

By creating and providing beautifully hand-crafted needlepoint belts (plus dog collars, key chains, and other needlepoint products), the underlying mission of Good Threads is intended to accomplish two important and worthy goals:

1. Create employment opportunities for parents of children attending school at the Joan Rose Foundation

2. Financially contribute to the Joan Rose Foundation 2% of all gross revenue plus 10% of all net profits generated by the efforts of Good Threads

THE JOAN ROSE FOUNDATION

Founded in 2010 in Esperanza, Dominican Republic by David Palmer of Bloomfield, MI, the stated mission of the Joan Rose Foundation is to “help impoverished children break the cycle of poverty that they are stuck in.” By 2015, operations were moved to Jacmel, Haiti, along with 23 core Haitian families, concerned these Haitian children could not find enduring success in the Dominican Republic.

Land was purchased in Jacmel, and there are now 12 buildings with 27 housing units. Since the relocation, more than 50 local children have been accepting, boosting total enrollment beyond 125 students. The contributions from Good Threads helps to pay for:

  • Attendance at a high-end private school
  • Breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday
  • Extra tutoring lessons
  • Additional reading classes

The Joan Rose Foundation was named in honor of David Palmer’s grandmother, Joan Rose Palmer, whose life was dedicated to seeking out the good in other people. David Palmer is also one of the principal founders and is currently president of Good Threads and is proud to continue promoting the good in other people, especially those with fewer prospects.

As further proof of our mission of community sharing, Good Threads is established as a Certified B Corporation, (also known as a Benefit Corporation) with the commitment to balance profits with purposes. This is accomplished by Good Threads considering the impact the operation of our business has on our workers, customers, suppliers, the community, and the environment. To qualify as a Benefit Corporation is not easy: the qualification process includes an thorough evaluation of the organization’s policies, structure, actions, financials, and operating agreement. Not every applicant passes this rigorous process, so we are especially proud to have earned the Benefit Corporation certification.
