Hometown: Sainte-Suzanne, Nord-Est (Northeastern Haiti)
Position with Good Threads: Miliana has been working for Good Threads for almost four years now. She is one of our fastest stitchers and can stitch custom designs without the aid of our stitching program that maps out each stitch. Miliana recently stitched our first Haitian Flag belt and key chains.
Hometown: Cap-Haitien, Nord (Northern Haiti)
Position with Good Threads: Mison has been working part time with Good Threads for over two years now. He received a loan though Good Threads Loan Program to purchase a motorcycle and paid back his loan in less than six months. He drives a motorcycle taxi when he isn’t stitching belts.
1. What were your previous jobs before joining Good Threads?
Miliana: I sold beans and avocados.
Mison: I worked construction and picked plantains.
2. What do you like most about working for Good Threads?
Miliana: I like the pay and I always have work. If I have work I am happy.
Mison: The money. I’d rather stitch than work as a moto taxi.
3. How has working for Good Threads impacted your life?
Miliana: I can live well doing this work. I send money back home to my family and can take good care of my daughter.
Mison: This job gives me options. The harder we work the more money we make. Being able to support ourselves and take care of our families is important.
Miliana and Mison have a young daughter named Misbeli. She has been in the Joan Rose Foundation since she was two years old and can frequently be seen at the foundation hanging out with her best friend Ashlin.
4. What is your favorite item to stitch for Good Threads?
Mison: I like stitching the boats.
5. What would you like to share to those who purchase Good Threads products?
Miliana: Buy more! If you buy more we will have more work and make more money.
Mison: Keep buying more so we can keep living well!
